Meetings and events in 2024 will see growth, driven by in-person formats and technological advancements.

The 2024 forecast for global meetings and events indicates significant optimism in the industry, with a continued return to in-person gatherings. Survey respondents show a strong preference for in-person formats, predicting that more than 75% of events will either be fully in-person or hybrid. North America and Europe lead in face-to-face meetings, while small, simple meetings and internal team events are expected to dominate.

The report highlights increasing budgets for meetings, though inflation and staffing shortages remain challenges. Many planners report that lead times for event planning are still short, making it difficult to secure favorable rates and venues. Despite this, planners are optimistic, with 82% rating their outlook for the industry as 8 or higher on a 10-point scale.

Emerging technologies, including AI, virtual reality, and mobile apps, are set to transform event planning by automating processes and enhancing attendee engagement. The integration of sustainability and DE&I (diversity, equity, and inclusion) considerations is also becoming more common in event planning, with a focus on reducing environmental impact and creating inclusive spaces.

As the meetings industry continues to evolve, the importance of building strong partnerships with vendors and leveraging technology to improve efficiency will be key. 2024 is expected to be a dynamic year, driven by innovation, collaboration, and a focus on delivering memorable in-person experiences.
